Ladyslippers that have been dug from the wild will probably die in its garden home. ( Right Plant Right Place) If a ladyslipper is priced too cheap, it was probably dug from the wild. (How else can you get a 7 year mature plant at pennies on the dollar?) Ladyslippers are slow growers and are priced accordingly.
We purchase laboratory propagated Cypripediums from Spangle Creek Labs. After two growing seasons, we provide plants to the public. Our third year plants are in quart containers and fourth year plants are in gallon containers. As ladyslippers are slow growers, the years spent at Kinnickinnic Natives will provide a stronger, more mature plant for your garden.
Remember: Patience is key. It may take up to 7 years for a ladyslipper to fully mature. We have had fourth year plants bloom in the pot, but it is an unusual flowering occurence.
In 2008, we are offering Cypripedium parviflorum var. pubescens (Large Yellow Ladyslipper), Cypripedium parviflorum var. parviflorum (Small Yellow Ladyslipper), Cypripedium candidum (Small White Ladyslipper), and Cypripedium reginae (Showy Ladyslipper). Each has its owing perferred growing areas and are well adapted to growing in our region.
Note: we are almost sold out for the season - stop by soon for the last of the 2008 ladyslippers. (6/6/08)
We offer growing and cultural sheets with purchase. We guaranty our plants to be healthy and true to name. But, once they leave the nursery, we have no control over other influences, such as weather, watering, planting site, proper planting, soil conditions, soil related root diseases, animal damage, injury, and improper handling of plants.
