Why do you grow plants from seed?

All of our seed is collected from within a 50 mile radius, meaning the original seed sources are from Wisconsin counties of St. Croix, Pierce, Polk and Dunn and Minnesota county of Washington. Local seed produces local plants, which are well-adapted to our climate and growing conditions.

Growing something from seed is exciting. It’s a great way of getting back in touch with the land. Seeds rarely transmit disease, giving plants a good healthy start in life. Each seed also represents a unique and different plant, so you could find yourself enjoying the odd interesting variation in flower color or plant height and habit.

What other services do your provide?

We designed a few large perennial gardens last year. While, we are not equipped to produce a full landscape plan, we will be glad to help with selecting plants and drawing up a plan to help with your landscape vision.

What is required for growing Ladyslippers?

First and foremost, patience is key. On average, it takes 7 years for a plant to reach full maturity and bloom. We sell 3rd and 4th year plants, so the plant still needs a few years in the ground to bloom.

Last year, we had several customers tell us about their blooming Ladyslippers. It was great to hear and share their success stories. And, when they bought more Ladyslippers, that was our indication that they were more than pleased.

We provide growing sheets for each type of Ladyslipper we sell. They each have their own specific growing conditions.

Are Ladyslippers hard to grow?

Yes and no. If you have the right conditions and are attentive the first couple of years, they should grow and flourish. If you are just starting out, the Large Yellow Ladyslipper is the easiest to grow.

Why are you open just weekends?

We have been slowly growing the business - wholesale, retail, mail order, internet - and someday in the near future we can be a fulltime retail nursery. But, until then, come visit us on the weekends during the growing season.
